31 Days Of Horror - Day 10: Flight Of The Living Dead: Outbreak On A Plane (2007)

Pin It now!

On a routine red eye flight, a renegade group of scientists has smuggled a container holding a fellow scientist infected with a deadly virus which reanimates the dead. While the plane crosses through violent thunderstorm, and no place to land, the flesh-eating zombies quickly spread the virus. The passengers and crew must fight for their lives stranded in the air with no way out.

It seems that a new zombie film gets released every week, with the market saturated with one bad zombie film after another it's hard to find the decent ones. When you do find a decent one it's a great feeling and that's what I got with "Flight Of The Living Dead: Outbreak On A Plane".

When I first saw the cover of this film my initial thought was "Oh god, Uwe Boll has released another film" (Sorry but I'm not a Uwe Boll fan AT ALL!). When I saw it wasn't a Boll release I decided I'd give it a watch, I'm a huge fan of the zombie genre and after witnessing my fair share of atrocious flicks it was great to finally have a smile on my face.

The films plot is very simple, a Boeing 747 airliner infested with modern action zombies capable of moving quickly and leaping. Director/writer Scott Thomas mainly goes for the action here and it's definitely the strong point and is done well, the zombies are well portrayed (if you like the fast zombies) and the over the top acting just makes it all the more entertaining.

It's hard not to compare this film with "Snakes On A Plane" but Thomas does claims that, in spite of all the obvious plot-similarities, his film is definitely not a quick cash-in on the success of the film and that the basic concept and the pre-production phase of "Flight Of The Living Dead: Outbreak On A Plane" actually pre-date "Snakes On A Plane". Truthfully it is just like "Snakes On A Plane"but with zombies so who you believe is your choice.

The effects of the film are fantastic, the gore is very well done and as usual with these types of releases it's very over the top but it just adds to the films charm, it also has some great kill scenes even some very comedic ones which is always fun. It has a perfect mixture of gore, comedy and action, if you're looking for any subtle comment on society here just plain zombie fun.

Yes this is pure cheese, a big pile of it, but it's very entertaining and if you like your zombie flicks then you will like this. It's a-lot better than you may think.
