"Blood, Boobs And Beast" tells the compelling story of Don Dohler, whose movies have been called everything from oddly brilliant to some of the worst films of all time.
For those who have read my stuff before you'll know how much I love a good documentary, especially when it involves my favourite film genre, Horror.
We're taken into the world of b-movie film-maker Don Dohler, a man who's been making very low budget films since before I was born. There's no mansions, no garage full of cars and most importantly no egos.
We see interviews with people such as Tom Savini, J.J. Abrams, Tom Sullivan and Lloyd Kaufman. It's surprising but great to see that even an a-lister like J.J. Abrams can enjoy films on the lower end of the spectrum.
The documentary shows us the trials and tribulations that Dohler has to go through to make his films and to get people to watch them and it makes for some interesting viewing. Like when he talks about unnecessary nudity in his films to at-least get some distribution, it seems to make him very uncomfortable.
If you're thinking of getting into the industry then this is priority viewing, it's like independent film 101. It also makes you appreciate the amount of hard work that goes into a seriously low budget film.
"Blood, Boobs & Beast" is a fantastic insight into the independent scene, I highly recommend this for anyone Horror fan out there.
