In the autobiographical documentary, the focus is squarely on Heather Langenkamp and her unique experience playing Wes Craven's legendary teen heroine Nancy Thompson.
Heather Langenkamp is loved by fans of "A Nightmare On Elm Street", her character 'Nancy' is a beloved heroine but she has a huge shadow cast over her.
That shadow is obviously cast by 'Freddy Kreuger' played by Robert Englund and let's be honest, that's a pretty big shadow to be behind. With this documentary we see Heather trying to get some recognition for her character and find out the story behind it.
The documentary is mainly based at convention appearances and fans are asked what their thoughts on the character are and as you'd expect they're very positive, especially one fan who's wheelchair bound and identified very much with 'Nancy'.
We also get to hear from Robert Englund and Wes Craven, hearing from Wes about how this character was created is very insightful and we learn a-lot from him. He gives 'Nancy' so much depth and also hearing from his daughter is very informative. Robert also has a great take on the character and as always is fun to watch and listen to.
Despite the documentary being filled with facts and stories it does become very cheesy in places, especially the ending. It also stretches on for a little too long, especially when a-lot of the time is spent with Heather complaining that her character isn't big enough. Despite this it is a fun watch but only if you're a real fan of the franchise and her character, though I still doubt you'll give it a re-watch.
"I Am Nancy" is a great insight to a great character, any fan of "A Nightmare On Elm Street" will really enjoy this.
